Anthony Joshua called ‘A-side’ by Amir Khan who warns AJ over Tyson Fury

Anthony Joshua is the ‘A-side’ in a potential undisputed heavyweight title clash with Tyson Fury, and therefore deserves a bigger purse than his rival, according to Amir Khan. But the Bolton fighter did say Fury is ‘definitely’ the No 1 heavyweight in the world.

Fury dethroned Deontay Wilder of his WBC world title back in February with a brilliant TKO win.

Fury forced Wilder’s corner to throw the towel in during the seventh round of their Las Vegas clash.

And now fans are clamouring to see Fury fight WBA, WBO and IBF champion Joshua, who last fought in December.

There are reports the pair are awaiting an offer from a Middle East country to stage the fight in December.

And Khan says that if and when the fight happens, there’s no question that Joshua is the ‘A-side’.

“We all know the ‘A-side’ of the heavyweights is AJ,” he told Sky Sports.

“He is the A-side, he is the big name and he brings the money to the table.”

But Khan admits Fury is currently the best heavyweight in the world.

“There are so many names out there, I don’t know what route AJ is going to take.

“Is Fury No 1 in the heavyweights? Definitely.

“You can’t fault that Fury is No 1.

“He’s proven that, having drawn against and beaten Wilder; not just beating him but knocking him out.”

Khan also said that Joshua vs Fury is ‘now or never’, comparing it to his situation with Kell Brook.

“I think what we are going through at the moment, during this pandemic period, no one knows what is going to happen,” he said.

“But I think on Sky, AJ did say it was going to be now or never to make it happen with Fury and that makes sense.

“It has to happen now, or maybe it’s never.

“Just like it had to happen when me and Kell Brook were looking to fight.

“We said ‘now or never’ back then and now it looks like never.”
