Anzor KHIZRIEV (RUS) took the mat at the “Toughest Tournament on Earth,” the Ivan Yariguin, searching for his second career Ranking Series gold medal. In the gold-medal-bout, he squared off with two-time world champion and Rio Olympic gold medalist, Taha AKGUL (TUR).
Khizriev carried the 3-3 on criteria into the second period after trading exposures and one-point exchanges with Akgul. In the closing period, the Russian big man scored exposures on back-to-back crotch lifts after stopping a pair of Turkish High-Crotch attempts.
Khizriev won the bout 7-3, matching his Ranking Series gold-medal performance from the ’18 Poland Open.
