Felix BALDAUF (NOR) headed into the ’17 European Championships with a mission to become his nation’s first European champ in over two decades.
After besting his first two opponents, Baldauf faced defending Olympic champion Artur ALEKSANYAN (ARM). When the clock finally hit zero, it was the Norwegian star who scored the 2-2 criteria win.
In the semifinals, Baldauf built an early 7-0 against Dimitriy TIMCHENKO (UKR). He surrendered seven unanswered points but locked up his finals spot with a 7-7 criteria victory.
In the gold-medal bout, Baldauf used every ounce of energy to squeak out a 2-1 win over Aliaksandr HRABOVIK (BLR) and lifted Norway to its first European title since Lars ROENNINGEN’s victory in 1992.
