UFC Vegas 5 results: Bobby Green showcases diverse striking attack to outduel Lando Vannata

Bobby Green didn’t get the decision in his first fight with Lando Vannata, but he left no doubt whatsoever in their rematch.

A diverse striking attack that showcased his fast hands and devastating power allowed Green to win all three rounds against Vanatta in their rematch that ultimately kicked off the main card at UFC Vegas 5. All three judges gave Green the nod with the scorecards reading 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27.

“I should be on a six-win streak but the judges, you know what it is,” Green said after earning his second straight victory. “Vote for me for the best Fight of the Night, I need to pay my house. Hopefully taxes don’t kill me too much but I gotta pay my house off.”

Following a Fight of the Night in their previous meeting, Green and Vannata were ready to trade some heavy leather in the rematch as well. Nearly every exchange saw the fighters both connecting with power as they appeared willing to see who had the ability to stay standing longer.

In between strikes being thrown, Green and Vannata were also trading some friendly trash talk as they looked to make up for the way their initial meeting ended in a split draw.

While Vannata was a little wild with his punches, Green stayed more technical with a slick jab and counter shot that consistently found a home on his opponent’s chin. Green was also disguising his combinations by holding his hands low and throwing from the hip, which made it harder for Vannata to pick up his shots.

In the third round, Green started to employ a Muay Thai clinch, which allowed him to punish Vanatta to the head and body with rapid-fire knees. Coming out of the clinch, Green then uncorked an elbow that put Vanatta down, although he survived a flurry on the ground before getting back to his feet.

After spending 30 minutes in the cage together, the lightweights definitely brought the best out of each other, but ultimately, it was Green who did more damage to earn the decision victory.

Green picked up a win over Clay Guida in June before making the quick turnaround to get the job done on Saturday night as well. Afterwards, Green revealed that he suffered a fractured hand against Guida, which may force him to take a little time off before booking his next fight in the octagon.
